The Best Black and Decker Irons of 2024

We have spent hours comparing top Black and Decker irons recommended by experts, real customers and adding our own research and insight. We looked at each iron’s wattage, control system, and more. With these criteria in mind, we put together our list of the best Black and Decker irons to consider.

Here are our favorite seven irons.

Black+Decker D3030 Allure Professional

Best Professional Steam Iron

Looking for a professional steam iron? The Black and Decker D3030 Allure Professional is a top choice.

It has professional dynamic steam, emitting 30 percent more steam than other brands. This is designed to quickly eliminate wrinkles and creases and give you professional results that last all day.

For a business man or woman, this iron is the ideal choice. It also has a useful precision tip for navigating around collars, cuffs, and buttons. You can look your best in the office with this powerful iron at 1600 watts.

What We Like

Durable Stainless Steel Soleplate

The soleplate on the Black and Decker D3030 is durable and heavy-duty. When you take it to the ironing board, you can get through your clothes effectively and quickly. It is suitable for all fabric types and will reduce your ironing time.

Auto Clean System

The auto-clean system is a bonus feature. This is especially useful if you live in a hard water area or aren’t using distilled water in your iron. With the touch of a button, you can flush out mineral buildup, making your iron feel new again.

Ultimate User Control

This iron has separate steam and temperature controls. You can customize the way you use this iron and easily change it up depending on the fabric type. The digital display shows you the selected temperature and even recommends the best level of steam to accompany it.

Dynamic Steam Technology

This patented steam technology emits 30 percent more steam than other brands. Not only does this provide quick results, but it creates longer-lasting smoothness on your clothing. Say goodbye to wrinkles all day.

What We Don't Like

Hard To See the Water Level

When you fill this iron up, it’s hard to see the water level. You might not be sure if you’ve overfilled, which can cause spits and sputters.

No On/Off Switch

When you plug this iron in, it’s on. There’s no option to turn it off if it’s plugged in at the wall. However, it will automatically shut itself off if left unattended for eight minutes or 30 seconds if left on the soleplate.

User Experience

This iron has quickly become one of my favorites due to its consistent steam, excellent weight and balance, and overall performance. Although the spray function stopped working after a few years, I primarily use steam and it hasn't been a major issue for me. One downside is the lack of a heating indicator light, making it difficult to know when it has reached the desired temperature. Despite this minor flaw, the iron provides a great ironing experience at a decent price, and I would definitely consider purchasing it again.

Black+Decker IR1010 Steam Iron

Best Soleplate

The Black and Decker IR1010 steam iron has a durable nonstick soleplate. The TrueGlide Nonstick soleplate allows for super smooth ironing. Plus, it allows great distribution across your fabrics with its SmartSteam technology.

This iron boasts a super high steam rate. You can customize the settings using the dial to get the more suitable temperature and steam setting for your garment. Make the most of this great soleplate with these settings.

What We Like

SmartSteam Technology

Besides the soleplate, the steam output is one thing we love about the Black and Decker Digital Advance steam iron. The generous burst of steam is excellent for quickly busting wrinkles out of any garment.

Plus, you can customize it in many different ways to find the best combo. But on the other hand, this automatically optimizes the steam output to provide the best results depending on your chosen temperature.

Three-way Automatic Shut-Off

Safety is Black and Decker’s priority. That said, they’ve made sure that when the iron is not in use for 30 seconds on its side or soleplate, it automatically shuts off. Aside from that, it also shuts off when left idle for eight minutes in heel rest.

TrueGlide Nonstick Soleplate

This soleplate is made from a smooth nonstick material. Just like a frying pan, this is designed to prevent sticking to your clothing. This allows you to glide across various fabrics without any interruption.

Anti-Drip Technology

A leaky iron might not seem like a big deal, but the hot water can cause stains. This iron has anti-drip technology.

When the temperature and water level is too low, the iron stops water from escaping the soleplate. In turn, this protects your clothing from water spots.

What We Don't Like

Not for Quilters

Because of the design of its soleplate having large grooves, it cannot be used for quilting purposes as it may distort the edges.

Cheap, but Not Super Cheerful

This is a super budget-friendly iron, one of the cheapest we have seen. Customers note that the quality of the iron reflects the price. It looks and feels cheap and might take a few passes over the fabric to remove wrinkles.

Personal Perspective

I'm impressed with this product's lightweight design, quick heating, and abundant steam output. The auto shut-off feature adds a layer of safety, and it glides smoothly across various fabrics. However, I do wish it had a retractable cord and a burst of steam function for added convenience.

Black+Decker IR16X Steam Iron

Best Budget Pick

On a budget? No problem. The Black and Decker IR16X is a top choice for a steam iron when on a budget.

This iron has a range of cool features. It comes with an EvenSteam soleplate, smart steam control, spray and steam burst buttons, as well as a precision tip. Not only that — there is also a self-clean function and three-way auto-shutoff.

So what do you sacrifice by buying on a budget? This iron is not as heavy-duty as other Black and Decker irons, and it has some condensation issues. But in terms of effectiveness, it’s a top choice.

What We Like

EvenSteam Stainless Soleplate

The IR16X steam iron has an EvenSteam stainless soleplate. It has plenty of steam holes so that steam is evenly distributed across your clothes. You can watch wrinkles disappear on any type of fabric.

SmartSteam Control Removes Wrinkles

This iron takes out some of the guesswork for you. Once you’ve chosen your temperature, the iron automatically calculates how much steam to emit for that temperature. This might be a con for people who want extra control, but it might make ironing easier for you.

Auto Clean Function

This iron comes with a useful auto-clean function. We love this for hard water areas especially, but it’s useful for anyone who uses tap water in their irons. When your iron begins to emit mineral deposits onto your clothes, that means it’s time to clean!

Tank Is Easy To Fill

It’s super inconvenient when an iron manufacturer has made the refill spout hard to access. Thankfully, this iron is a breeze to refill. Simply bring a jug of water to the iron, and pour it into the tank.

What We Don't Like

Not Heavy Duty

Because of its modest price, you can expect this iron to be of slightly less quality. It’s made of plastic and isn’t as sturdy as other Black and Decker irons. But like all their other products, it falls under a two-year warranty, so it should last a while.

Doesn’t Get Hot Enough

For general ironing, this iron will hit the spot. But for heavy, frequent, and project ironing, this doesn’t quite meet the mark. This won’t be hot enough if you need an iron for quilting or fiber art.

Community Feedback

Great lightweight iron with a pretty color and easy-to-fill water feature. In my experience, the steam works well and heats up quickly without sputtering water onto the fabric. However, I did notice that it can get quite hot, so be cautious when handling. One minor issue I encountered was the pivoting cord sometimes preventing the iron from standing up properly, but it can be managed by ensuring the cord is out of the way. Unfortunately, I did experience some leakage with this product, but it was not a deal breaker for me.

Black+Decker Easy Steam Compact Iron

Best Lightweight Iron

The Black and Decker Easy Steam compact iron is lightweight at less than two pounds. This is our top recommendation if you want something easy to use and transport.

This one is small enough to slot into your suitcase, but it’s still powerful, coming in at 1200 watts. It’s comfortable to hold and maneuver. We think it’s excellent if you struggle with heavier irons.

It also has a phenomenal steam output which will help you defeat wrinkles and creases. The SmartSteam technology automatically chooses the steam amount depending on the chosen temperature. This eliminates the guesswork for you and speeds up ironing time.

What We Like

Three-Way Auto Shutoff

The Easy Steam compact iron has a three-way auto-shutoff for peace of mind. If you leave the iron on its soleplate, it will turn off after 30 seconds. Left on its side or heel unattended for eight minutes, it also shuts off — a super helpful safety feature!

TrueGlide Non-Stick Soleplate

This iron is equipped with a TrueGlide non-stick soleplate. It has 72 steam holes to emit evenly distributed and powerful steam.

This soleplate is created to glide smoothly across any fabric. Customers find the soleplate to be a total dream when ironing.

Fabric Guide Included

This Black and Decker iron has a fabric guide on the body. It has six temperature settings, recommended by fabric type.

So it tells you which control setting to use for synthetics, nylon, polyester, blends, wool, and cotton. No more accidentally choosing the wrong temperature and scorching your clothes!

SmartSteam Technology

When you choose your ironing temperature, the iron automatically adjusts the steam output, which will most effectively remove wrinkles. No more guesswork for you!

What We Don't Like

No Adjustable Steam Setting

Unlike some of the other Black and Decker steam irons, this one doesn’t have an adjustable steam setting. It changes automatically depending on your chosen temperature, which is a pro for some. But this is a con for others.

Open Water Door

When you fill this iron with water, there’s no door to close over. So if you hold this at a certain angle, the water will spill out. Using it normally shouldn’t cause dripping, but some customers have noticed a little leakage.

First-Hand Impression

This iron has its pros and cons, but overall, it gets the job done. On the positive side, it's lightweight, glides smoothly over various fabrics, and has simple settings. However, some drawbacks include the absence of a lid for the water filling valve, which can lead to spills, and a non-retractable cord. I also noticed that the iron seemed to have been used before, as there were water spots in the tank, but it still works fine. While it may not be perfect, this iron is functional and makes ironing a bit more bearable.

Black+Decker Professional Steam Iron IR1350S

Best Self-Cleaning Iron

Hard water can leave mineral deposits that build up over time in your iron. It’s good to find an iron that self-cleans: that’s why we love the the Black and Decker IR1350S professional steam iron.

This has a handy auto-clean button on the side of the iron. Use this when your iron needs cleaning, or every couple of weeks, depending on how often you use it. You’ll know it needs cleaning when it starts to spit out unsightly substances.

The auto clean on this iron flushes out minerals, residue, and water sediment. In return, your iron will feel as good as new.

What We Like

Stainless Steel Soleplate

The stainless steel soleplate is heavy-duty and durable. It’ll last a long time and do a phenomenal job at reaching high heats to zap out wrinkles. Plus, it’s compatible with any fabric.

Helpful Temperature Dial

The handy temperature dial allows you to customize your temperature depending on your fabric. But this iron goes further to recommend you the best steam setting to accompany that temperature. You can mix and match steam and temperature levels to find the best combo for you.

Vertical and Horizontal Steaming

You can use this iron on anything. Horizontally, you can iron as usual using your board. You can also steam vertically, which is great for curtains, hanging outfits, and furniture.

Just aim the soleplate at the object and emit the steam continuously to bust out wrinkles.

Auto Clean System

The self-cleaning system on this iron is super easy to use. It flushes out residue and water sediment, leaving your iron fresh. This also extends the iron’s lifespan, so use it when necessary.

What We Don't Like

It Leaks At Certain Angles

Watch out — this iron might leak at certain angles. Always ensure it’s not past the maximum line to prevent spills and leaks.

Might Not Be Hot Enough

Some customers complain that this iron didn’t get hot enough for them. This is especially for cotton and linen as well as iron transfers. Keep this in mind, so you’re not disappointed.

User Experience

I'm quite pleased with this product's performance overall, especially its powerful steam burst and unique purple design. The extra-large soleplate makes ironing various fabrics more efficient, but the temperature dial can be difficult to read and the iron takes a bit longer to heat up than I'd like. Despite some minor drawbacks, such as unclear instructions and a less-than-ideal temperature indicator, the iron's lightweight design and leak-free craftsmanship are noteworthy. Admittedly, it struggles a bit with cotton items, but it still manages to make ironing less of a chore. While I might not repurchase this particular model, I'm willing to give it more time to see if I can fully adjust to its features.

Black+Decker Classic Steam Iron

Best Classic Black and Decker Steam Iron

The Black and Decker Classic Steam iron is just that — classic. It has a retro design, looking like an iron from the 1960s. But its modern technology makes it an exceptional purchase.

What makes this iron stand out — apart from the design — is the aluminum soleplate. It’s built to be durable.

With the smooth finish, it is suitable for all fabric types. The groove at the top lets you navigate around buttons, cuffs, and collars.

Just note that aluminum soleplates are prone to sticking to clothes, which can be annoying when ironing.

What We Like

Useful Setting Guide

A big reason we love this iron is the useful setting guide. On the body of the iron is a chart that tells you what temperature to use for which fabric. There are seven different settings; just match the dial to the recommended temperature and get to work!

Great Iron for Quilting

Customers love the Black and Decker Classic steam iron for quilting. It’s heavy duty and has 3.2 pounds of weight, making it superb for pressing your fabrics. You’ll love keeping this iron around for crafting, sewing, and quilting.

Fast Ironing

If you’re after fast ironing, you’ve come to the right place. This iron heats up quickly, which is handy for touch-ups before work. But because of the weight and the smooth soleplate, you get quick, wrinkle-free results in a short time.

Option for Dry Ironing

While we love a steam iron, steam isn’t suitable for all garments. We appreciate that this iron has the option to turn off the steam. You can dry iron or steam iron with this handy tool.

What We Don't Like

Aluminum Soleplate Sometimes Sticks

Aluminum soleplates are prone to sticking to clothes. Customers frequently complain that the soleplate on this iron sticks to clothes. It’s great for pressing but not so much for smoothing across fabrics.

It Might Leak

Although this iron specifies that it’s anti-drip, customers’ experiences differ. Many say it’s truly anti-drip, while others say theirs always leaks. Keep this in mind, and never fill it above the max line to prevent this.

Personal Perspective

This iron is simple to use and works well, providing a sturdy and heavier feel than most irons. As a quilt maker, I appreciate its weight for flattening seams and smoothing wrinkles without using steam. However, the design of the holes on the sole plate could use improvement, as they can sometimes cause fabric to scrunch up when pulling the iron back and forth. Despite taking diligent care of the iron, I was disappointed when it stopped working after about a year and a half, but overall, it's the best one I've had in decades due to its quick heating and easy-to-read dials.

Black+Decker Vitessa Advanced Steam Iron

Best for Travel

The Black and Decker Vitessa Advanced Steam Iron is our top pick if you’re traveling. This 2-pound iron is a lightweight option with a retractable cord. So it won’t take up too much space in your suitcase.

Although it’s a full-size iron, it’s a compact version for Black and Decker without compromising its effectiveness.

This iron has a superb soleplate with steam vents evenly distributed across the whole surface. The design gives you fast and professional results, which is great if you’re taking this iron with you on a business trip.

What We Like

SmartSteam Technology

This is an easy iron to use. The handy guide tells you which temperature to use for different fabrics.

Once you’ve chosen any of the six settings, the iron cleverly emits the best steam amount to accompany the chosen temperature. That takes the guesswork out for you so that all you have to think about is busting out wrinkles.

Compatible With Vertical Steaming

The anti-drip feature on this iron allows you to steam vertically as well as horizontally. Just hold the iron up to furniture, curtains, bedding, or hanging outfits and emit the steam. This is good for quick touch-ups, too, if your outfit is already hanging up ready to be put on.

TrueGlide Nonstick Soleplate

As mentioned, this soleplate is excellent. It has lots of steam holes that provide evenly emitted steam to bust out creases and wrinkles in no time. It’s also made of TrueGlide nonstick materials, allowing it to glide easily across any fabric.

Auto Clean Function Included

Another Black & Decker iron that self-cleans! We love to see it. This one has a one-touch button to remove impurities within the tank, keeping the iron working its best.

What We Don't Like

No Steam Regulation

If the water tank is filled, then the steam is on. There isn’t a way to turn the steam off with this iron, but there is a steam button.

This gives you an extra boost of steam if needed. But for items you don’t want to steam, you’ll need to completely empty the water tank first.

Poor Water Level View

It’s pretty hard to see the water level on this Black and Decker iron. The reviews from customers say they have difficulty determining whether it’s empty or full. Some customers also reported issues with condensation.

My experience with this product has been mostly positive; it heats up quickly and glides smoothly over various fabrics. The steam function is powerful, but filling the water tank can be a bit challenging due to its design. The iron is medium-weight, which some might find less effective for stubborn wrinkles. One downside is the cord retraction system, which could be improved.

Are Black and Decker Irons Good?

Black and Decker have amazing irons for many different purposes and budgets. They began their journey in 1910 when two young entrepreneurs opened a shop in Baltimore (1). At first, they made machinery for milk bottle caps and candy dipping.

By 1919, their annual sales had exceeded $1 million. While their original endeavor consisted mostly of DIY tools like drills, they now have a vast range of home tools.

Besides irons, they make vacuum cleaners, steam cleaners, pressure washers, and more.

Black and Decker products are manufactured in the US and China (2). However, Black and Decker plan to move more of its manufacturing process into the US eventually.

Do Black and Decker Irons Have Auto Shut Off?

Black and Decker’s irons have an automatic shut-off, which gives customers peace of mind. Most of their products have three-way auto shut-off. This means it automatically turns off, whether it’s left on its heel, side, or soleplate.

If left on the soleplate, it will turn off after 30 seconds. Left on its side or heel, it usually turns off after eight minutes without use.

Something To Note

Auto shut-off was introduced to prevent fires since leaving an iron face down can scorch materials and potentially start a fire.

How To Choose a Black and Decker Iron

When shopping for a new iron, consider some of the main factors to help match you with the ideal iron for you.

Wattage

The higher the wattage, the more powerful the iron can bust out stubborn wrinkles. Black and Decker iron wattage ranges from 1100 watts to 1600. Each option is powerful and strong — but the higher, the better.

Steam and Temperature Settings

Steam irons are great at zapping out creases and wrinkles. If that interests you, choose a steam iron.

Also, extensive temperature settings give you more options and control over the heat. So you can go from ironing delicates to tough fabrics like cotton with the touch of a button.

Soleplate

There are a few different soleplate materials to choose from. Each soleplate has pros and cons, so consider which is best for you.

  • Stainless steel is the most popular, but aluminum and ceramic are also growing in popularity. This material is durable and easy to clean, but it might stick to clothing decals.
  • Ceramic has excellent heat distribution and can eliminate static at high heat. However, it’s more prone to wear and tear over time.
  • Aluminum has excellent heat distribution, but it’s likely to stick to your clothes, making the ironing experience frustrating.

Go The Classic Route

If in doubt, we recommend a stainless steel soleplate. It’s the most common and the best for ironing because of its durability.

Controls

Black and Decker’s irons have other control options, such as spray buttons and steam burst. Spray is great for dampening a fabric to make it easier to iron. Steam burst is good for vertical steaming of furniture and curtains.

Weight

Black and Decker’s irons come in a range of weights. Some people prefer lighter irons as these are easy to transport and use.

But others prefer heavier irons because they press into wrinkles and creases better. Heavier irons are also ideal for quilting and sewing.

Black and Decker’s irons range from 1.89 pounds to 3.2. Most average about two pounds, which is pretty lightweight.

Self-Clean and Anti-Scale

This is an important factor to consider when shopping for a new iron. Minerals can build up inside your iron if you live in a hard water area. You can clean an iron manually, but it’s easier with a self-cleaning and anti-scale function.

We’ll let you know whether each iron has a self-cleaning function.

FAQs

What Is the Difference Between a Normal Iron and a Steam Iron?

The difference between a steam iron and a regular iron is how the iron performs. A steam iron produces steam to remove stubborn wrinkles, whereas a regular iron heats but doesn’t produce steam.

How Do You Use a Black and Decker Professional Steam Iron?

The best way to use a Black and Decker Professional Steam Iron is to fill the reservoir with water, set the steam setting, and wait while the water heats. Press down on the garment and use the steam boost button to deal with stubborn wrinkles.

If you want t dry iron, there is no need to fill the reservoir and ensure that the setting is set to “dry.”

How Do I Clean a Black and Decker Iron?

The best way to clean a Black and Decker iron is to use white vinegar to cleanse the inside and reservoir, and baking soda and vinegar on the heat plate to remove mineral deposits and scorch marks.

Why Does My Black and Decker Iron Leak?

Your Black and Decker iron leaks because you have overfilled the water container or there is a fault with the iron. Mineral deposits can harm the internal components and cause them to leak, which is why you must keep on top of maintenance.
